What does the thyroid do?
The thyroid gland receives signals from the pituitary gland to produce thyroid hormone and send the right amount of it throughout the body. Thyroid hormone is responsible for generating the heat your body needs, regulating body temperature and heart rate, controlling the function of all your organs, and is involved in brain development.
When your thyroid isn't working properly, you can experience a variety of symptoms throughout your body, so it's important to take good care of it.
Thyroid Radiofrequency Ablation Procedure
Radiofrequency ablation of the thyroid is a minimally invasive treatment that uses a thin needle about 1 mm thick inserted inside the tumor to destroy the tumor with a brief burst of high heat.
Radiofrequency ablation utilizes an alternating current that oscillates at a constant frequency to generate heat at the tip of the needle. The heat generated can be controlled to around 90 to 100 degrees, which can necroticize the surrounding tumor.
Types and Symptoms of Thyroid Disease
The thyroid is an endocrine gland located in the neck that secretes hormones to regulate metabolism, energy production, growth and development, and more.
Conditions caused by an underactive thyroid gland are often caused by an excess or deficiency of thyroid hormones and include the following symptoms
Hyperthyroidism is a condition in which too much thyroid hormone is produced, causing your metabolism to speed up too much.Weight loss
Heat tolerance
Nervousness
Diarrhea
Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough thyroid hormone, causing the body's metabolic rate to slow down.Weight gain
Cold tolerant
Nerves are dulled
Constipation
A thyroid nodule is a partially enlarged lump of tissue inside the thyroid gland.
A lump is palpable in the front of the neck
Unexplained fatigue
I feel a foreign object in my throat
Indigestion
Who Should Have Radiofrequency Thyroid Ablation
Thyroid radiofrequency ablation is a non-invasive procedure used to treat benign thyroid nodules. The procedure uses radiofrequency energy to shrink or destroy the nodules, which has the advantage of a faster recovery than surgery and can be performed without hospitalization.
And if the thyroid nodule is a malignant thyroid cancer, you'll need to choose another treatment option, such as surgery or radioactive iodine treatment.
